Had an incredible opportunity earlier this month to travel to the Dominican Republic with Compassion Canada. I’ve been working with Compassion since May 2012, and I was blessed to head into the field with a number of other Canadian artists to see Compassion’s amazing work right up close. I am so impressed with the action they are taking, working with the people of the Dominican Republic, and taking to heart God’s call to serve and protect His little children.
If you’re one of my Facebook friends, head over to my profile and check out the photo album of the trip (along with lots of descriptions and stories). Here’s a few photos to tide you over…
Beautiful little man I met on my January 2013 Trip to the Dominican Republic with Compassion Canada
Smiles at the Batay – A batay is a community built by Haitian immigrants who were lured to the DR to work in the sugar cane fields with false promises of housing and education. Compassion is working with these communities to get birth certificates for the children, so they can go to school past elementary and enter the legal work force.
El Capotillo, Santo Domingo – One of the top 10 most dangerous neighbourhoods in the world. Children who are part of the Compassion program are unique in that they know they will receive at least one meal in the day, when other children can rarely say the same.
